Knitting for Beginners

Knitting is delightful process of making of a fabric by interlocking loops of yarn with the cris-crossing of needles. While the headed needles battle againsteach other what comes up as an end product is a beautiful piece of work. Thisis one battle which doesn't lead to bloody fury but offers you a loveadorned cover. This is inciting enough for anyone to jump into the arena of thisprolific art. So all of you who shy off and hesitate to begin, gear up and wearyour new hat and begin.

To give a boost to your still juvenile confidence all that you need to know asa knitting beginner is here.

Tips for Knitting Beginners:

To begin with you need to know the tools and technique you would require foryour novel project. You need to have

  1. Two needles of size in accordance with the yarn and the pattern you want to work on
  2. Yarn (as a knitting beginner go for acrylic as it would be easier to handle than wool or cotton)

You should have it clear in your head that knitted fabric is different from woven fabric as the former contains horizontal courses of yarn running parallel to one another.

First of all you will need to understand the basic knit stitch which is the simplest to begin with and through this simple stitch you can explore wonderful designs and patterns as you would acquire neatness with time in your work.

You have to begin practicing with the process of casting on say with 5 stitches. Cast on is started by forming a base series of twisted loops of yarn on a knitting needle while the other needle is run through each loop side by side in order to snag a bight of yarn and later pull a length back through the loop/stitch. This would make a new stitch and the cast-on stitches will be on the needle in your left hand finally. This process can be carried forward either back and forth in rows or in round knitting.

The two basic stitches are knit and purl which are in actual the counter heads to each other, the difference being only of direction. The former runs from left to right in the above stated manner while with a purl you would proceed in the opposite direction, that is, from right to left. You also will have to keep in mind the size of the product you want finally out of your input. if the size does not come out in exactness then you need not
think that your labor has run to the drains. You can always increase or decrease the number of stitches accordingly.

Even as knitting beginner you can explore variations with the simple knit and purl. If you are using only one of these two basic stitches throughout your project, then you will have a garter stitch and if you knit alternate rows of knit and purl then you would have a stockinet stitch or jersey stitch. It is also a wonderful option to work with different colors and knit varied patterns especially as a novice. So you can play with the
little you know and please your own senses.

Once you are done with your knitted piece just cast off the remaining live stitches across each other so that they can easily remove off the fighter needle.

A great tip for knitting beginners for great knitting:

See that all your stitches are cast on one needle.

With these limited and manageable tools and this basic operational knowledge you can begin with the confidence of a perfectionist rather than a knitting beginner.

Who named you 'the knitting beginner', and who said you cannot master the art, It is for you to believe whether you have the magical yarn in your hands. It is nothing but the faith and imagination for your craft. Having faith in your craft is like having vitamin supplements for your health!! It works wonders if you are knitting with confidence.
